A Rare Tasmanian Huon Pine Chest of Drawers - Antique Victorian Tall Boy
"Huon Pine - not actually a true pine but a Podpcarp - is a native to the wet southwestern corner of Tasmania. It is notable for its golden yellow colour, lovely fine grain & birdseye and natural oils that resist rotting. It is a slow-growing, but long-lived tree; some living specimens of this tree are in excess of 2000 years old. Huon Pine trees are rare as they have been lost to the inundation of hydroelectric schemes and to fire over some 100 years now. Extensive logging has removed nearly all of the large trees, but there is a lot of regrowth and it is has become illegal to cut living trees for some time now."
